FIRE!
So we have yet again a really weird story, luckily this time it wasn't in our apartment. So when Jed and I went to conference, in order for him and I to stay together we found a cheaper hotel down the road from where my team was staying. Jed and I were minding our own business watching a really intense tv show (revolution, it's our new favorite) when an alarm started to sound. We both looked at each other and Jed asked "Is that the fire alarm?" I think I might have answered yes but I don't really remember because the next minutes were frantic panic. Jed being the smart one immediately ran for the door to leave while I on the other hand started gathering all our stuff together. We know who paid attention to fire safety and who didn't. In my defense I did yell at jed to check the door handle before opening the door. Quick note, our hotel was two different buildings right next to one another. We were in the main one and out our window faced the other building. Ok, so as i'm packing my stuff together I randomly open the curtain to our room and the building across from us is on FIRE! Jed's like "Oh crap we gotta go! That can spread fast!" So with all our stuff in hand we bolt for the door and start heading out. We ran into other guests and told them that the next building was on fire. Without any panic some people just said "oh ok" and one man said "oh no the front desk said someone pulled the alarm" we informed him that, that was not the case and that we actually saw flames. Still no panic! What was wrong with these people, because obviously we weren't over reacting :) So next Jed and I went to the front desk and told him that it wasn't a prank but a real fire and he began to panic and call for help but we could already hear sirens. Jed and I stood outside for the next half hour (in the pouring rain) watching about seven fire trucks pull up, fire men breaking windows to let smoke escape, and the hotel manager running back in forth in a panic. Though it didn't effect our room we (mostly me) were freaked out and didn't want to stay there anymore. I ended up calling my team and we headed back to hotel in which they were staying at. It was a very eventful night!

Wow so much has happened in the last month! I definitely found out that i'm terrible about keeping up with this blog! So once again here is a quick review on what's been happening at the Harrison household.
Halloween was a blast as usual. We had a fun time with friends and family carving pumpkins and watching scary movies. We even played a "angry birds" type game with our neighbors launching pumpkins with a giant rubber band at a pinata! It was great fun haha.
Though election results were not in our favor we are still happy we voted!!! This was my first time voting at an actual booth and not by mail!

I had three races in the last month and they were so much fun! My favorite race was in Wisconsin where I had a break through race and made the conference team. Conference was in Portland and it was super muddy and rainy. It made for an interesting race but it was sure fun. Jed got to come to that race along with my parents and Richard (his team Gonzaga is in our conference). It was a blast being with family! Our last race was in Fort Collins Colorado and I was just an alternate but still got to travel with the team. Unfortunately we had a very off day and we didn't make it to nationals. I'm super excited for the experience that i got this season and i'm so stoked for a upcoming track season.
Jed and I both had our birthdays recently (mine October 25th & Jeds November 3rd). For Jeds birthday we were able to go to Brigham City and spend time with his family and adorable new niece Eleanor Ramsay! She's going to go by Nora so Jed and I now have to Nora(h) nieces! Jed did a great job spoiling for my birthday! We went out to tucanos and he got me a long board so we can long board together!

Water, Ants, and Snakes...
So we love our apartment, we really do. But, we also have had share of experiences that I suppose will make for great first apartment horror stories.
Problem #1
When we first moved in, we walked up to our apartment and all the windows were covered with water. Thinking that our apartment didn't properly dry from the recent carpet cleaning, we did our best to always leave windows open. On top of our apartment always being damp and humid, it had a terrible mildew smell so we were afraid that mold had formed on the carpets. With Jed's work equipment he re-cleaned the carpets and we thought our problems were solved. Unfortunately it was still always humid and it still smelled really bad. Because of the high July and August heat, our apartment had turned into a sauna and we had no way to cool it down. Finally we talked to the manager about the problem. He told us this was normal and just happens during the summer. After further investigation though, our manager discovered that a crawl space directly beneath our apartment had a hot water leak and over 2000 gallons of hot water was steaming into our apartment. Problem number one is now fixed thank goodness.
Problem #2
We were having serious ant problems. We keep our apartment pretty clean be we would still watch our crumbs scurry across the floor on a daily basis. I noticed that there was a high concentration of ants in the bathroom and wondered if that was where they were coming from. Jed and I went to Smiths and got those ant traps with peanut butter looking stuff in them and put some in our kitchen and then in our bathroom. It was pretty fun the first day to watch ant after ant pick up the food in the bathroom and take it back to there home in the wall hoping it would mean the end to our little friends. After a day our two of this one morning we woke up to hundreds of dead ants on our bathroom floor. It was so weird! I guess they left the nest to die. We would vacuum the dead ones up and by the next day we would have a new batch of dead ants on the floor. This continued for a couple days and I think we are officially ant free!
Problem #3
I HATE SNAKES! Yeah I can look at one in the wild at a close distance but I've never been a huge fan, especially when they are in our apartment. So last Sunday i was minding my own business in the bathroom when i saw something sticking out a crack in the wall. I started to get closer when I realized that it was the head of a snake. As quickly as I could I sprinted out of the bathroom (screaming of course) and jumped on the couch. Jed obviously startled asked what was wrong and I told him there was a snake in our bathroom. What the heck do you do with a snake in your bathroom! So then after calming down (a little) we sat and watched the snake hoping he would come a little further out so we could grab him. We were hesitant to grab him with just his head poking out in fear that he would go back in the wall. So finally after some time of nothing happening, we called our manager to ask for some caulk to seal the hole once we go the snake out. He got super excited and came running down to see the snake and accidently scarred it back in the wall and then sealed the hole shut. Ya so try sleeping knowing that there is a snake in your wall. Not that easy. The next day we came home from classes for a lunch brake. Jed was already in the kitchen and as I was walking towards him when I looked over at his bike (we keep our bikes in our apartment). Draped across the handle bars was our little friend. I seriously thought I was going to die. I screamed and sprinted out of the house. Jed of course started laughing at me cause he knew I must have found the snake. Because I have such an amazing husband, we no longer have snake problems...at least we better not. Oh and we think he came from the crawl space under our apartment which our manager has secured with snake traps and repellent just in case.

Fall!
The colors up the canyon changed really fast this year so we had an early start to fall. We love fall so much and always get so excited for the upcoming events. So far we have already decorated our apartment, gone to football games, and walked up South Fork in order to see the leaves. We can't wait to continue our ever long fall list of scary movies, haunted houses, caramel apples, and most importantly pumpkin everything!

So if I had started this blog when I created it, I probably would have talked about all the fun things we did this summer but to spare everyone here is a quick recap...
